The Word of God is so powerful! God said that every time you read it, it will never fail to yield a return on your investment. One of my favorite people in the Bible is David. His life story and personal transparency leaves much to glean from. Acts 13:22 – “I have found David, son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.” It’s not all of his impressive qualities that God valued the most; it was his heart of obedience. The result followed: Acts 13:36 – “For when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep and was buried with his fathers…” Could you imagine if God said that about you? What if that were your legacy? David tells us how he did it.
David reminds us of the power of declaration. Declare: to make known formally, officially or explicitly, to make known as a determination, to make clear, to make evident, to state emphatically, to affirm. When you declare what God said, your heart is filled with it, your entire mind, body, soul and spirit aligns with it. You come into agreement with it. You speak it into the atmosphere around you. It is a weapon, the Sword of the Spirit coming out of your mouth which breaks strongholds, and establishes dominion. It confirms and releases the rulership of the Sovereign God over all the earth, over you, your mind, body and spirit!
In the book of Psalms, David speaks about four things. #1) He speaks about God – what God did, does, and what God will do. #2) He speaks to himself – what he personally will do in response. #3) He speaks to God – asking Him to do, and #4) He speaks to us – what we should do.
Three of these are declarations, one is prayer. Declarations from Psalms chapter one through chapter one hundred and fifty also include the Psalmists and their declarations along with David’s. When we declare God’s Word, both His written Word in the pages of scripture, His prophetic Words through the prophets He has raised up for today, and the prophetic Word He speaks in each of us, we come into agreement with Him. We participate in His purpose and plan coming to pass.
You have a part to play in your generation: praise, declare, and pray. There is a difference between prayer and intercession. Prayer is bringing our petitions before God. Intercessory prayer is praying His prayers, not ours, over our current situation, nation, and generation. God convicted me about intercessory prayer. “If you are praying your opinion, that’s not intercession.” God doesn’t need our suggestions on what He should do. He already knows what He will do. God wants us to agree with Him in prayer and declare what He wants to do. Praying that these declarations of David and the Psalmists will encourage you to pray God’s will, and declare His Word over you, your family, this nation, and the nations.
