Daily Huddle - Mon  Mar 4, 2019     Tend Your Boss  (Part 1)

Love you all, praying for you.

Praying that you will invest your mouth in filling your heart with faith.   I just love that God’s Word is so practical!  It teaches success for anyone who will follow it.

Proverbs 27:18  He who tends a fig tree will eat its fruit, and he who looks after his master will be honored.

Tends – “keepeth” natsar - <naw-tsar>  to guard, protect, maintain.  (Also tendency – to move in a certain direction, be directed to an end or purpose.  To have a leaning.)

1828 Webster – Tend.  To watch, guard, to accompany as an assistant or protector, to hold and take care of.  Be attentive to.

Fig trees require tending to produce more fruit.  From planting them in the right place, removing anything that would cause shade (they do best in direct sunlight), pruning at the end of winter just before growth appears, so as not to damage the tree, fertilizing – but not too much, you want more fruit not more leaves, mulching around the base, so water can access the root system that grows near the surface, sandy soil, not clay…

And God says – like you tend a fig tree so you can eat it’s fruit…  Tend your boss.  What an opposite concept from the practice of this culture.  Many people dislike their boss, they think they’re stupid, incompetent, but really in their pride, they think they would do better.

But even more people like their boss – to their face, but not behind their back.   They are two-faced.  They will not speak up in defense of their boss – when all their peers are complaining and criticizing them.  With their silence, and even with their own words, they will participate in the tearing down of their boss’s reputation.  It’s dishonoring to God, it’s stealing, it’s slander, God detests it.  God’s people are different from the wicked, they don’t do what the world does.

He tells us to honor those in authority over us.  (Romans 13:1)   He says we are to refresh the spirits of your masters (Proverbs 25:13)   He says we are to respect them – if they are harsh or kind (I Peter 2:18)   He tells us we are to say nothing harmful (Psalms 34:13)   He says we are to pray for those in authority over us (I Tim 2:2)   God can remove them in an instant.   Psalms 75:6-7  No one from the east or west can exalt themselves.  It is God who decides.  He brings down one, and exalts another.

Don’t worry about them and how good a job they’re doing.   Honor them and help them.  God can remove you as easily as He can remove them.   Some people can’t understand why they never get promoted.  Promotion comes from building up, not tearing down.  It’s the law of sowing and reaping.  They’re just reaping what they sow.

It’s rare that we take an honest look at ourselves.   Do I really honor my boss?  Tend them? - and in that way – honor Christ…  Or am I just like the wicked – letting my silence or my mouth be used for evil?

Since if you ever got promoted, you would surely get employees – just like you (not ‘karma’ – it’s God’s law of sowing and reaping…)   Are You the employee that you would want – if your success as a boss depended on it?   Tomorrow we’ll share some practical ways to tend your boss.

Praying that you will honor God in every way today – even by the way you honor those He has set in authority over you.  Whether your direct boss, or anyone who has authority in any environment you enter.  People are watching you.  I’m praying that they will see excellence, diligence, honor.  So the favor of God can chase you down.

Love you all,
dad
