Love you all, praying for you,
Do you want a heart after God? Here’s what God says. Matthew 6:21 – For where you treasure is, there will your heart be also. (That’s why money is a heart issue, not a money issue). Acts 13:22 – I have found David, son of Jesse, a man after my own heart. He will do everything I want Him to do. David was an obeyer – that’s why God said He has a heart after God’s own heart. What would God say about you? David gave his secret. Psalms 119:72 – The law from your mouth is more precious to me than thousands of pieces of silver or gold. David was a money obeyer. He always obeyed what God said, not what money said. Because God’s Word was more precious to him – than money. Matthew 6:24 - No one can serve two masters - He will either love one and hate the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other, you cannot serve God and money. So how do you serve God and how do you serve money? If you serve God – you have a heart after God. If you serve money you have a heart after money – but not God. And how do you serve? To serve means to come under the authority of. God simply says – if you obey what I say – you love me more. If you obey what money says – you love money more. Nothing speaks louder than money. And while God’s Way or man’s way – applies in every single area of life (there is a way that seems right to a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death) nowhere is the difference more pronounced than in the area of money. This is heart training. Because when you learn to obey with money, you love God – more than money. We are going to talk about three things today #1) The heart of obeying with money #2) The practice of obeying with money - give an account - you need a 4C's Account Tool! #3) The principles of obeying with money – what God’s word says. Why the heart first? Because if our heart isn’t after God’s own heart, practice and principle don’t matter. Once your heart is decided, and you begin the practice of obeying – obedience accelerates revelation. There are 2300 verses in the Bible on money and possessions – we can’t cover them all today… But as you give an account every day – knowing where God’s money is, and doing what He tells you to do with it, He can then reveal what His Word teaches about money- which confirms what He told you. He will never tell you to do something – that conflicts with His Word. He starts with the heart – then practice, then principles. David loved God’s Word – and pre-committed himself to obey. That’s a heart after God. If you don’t love God’s Word – you’ll never learn what He says about money and if you are not committed to obey whatever you learn… It doesn’t matter what He says. You’ll decide as you go – that’s the opposite of David – a man after God’s own heart – who decided before He even started, not as he went – that he will obey no matter what! So what about you? Here’s a question – Of what God says about money, what are you not willing to obey? Anything? (Well, I don’t know what He says yet…) Does it matter? It didn’t to David. Heart: Once you decide to love His Word and obey no matter what… Practice: Give an Account. You need a 4C’s Accounting Tool – to help you Give An Account. Know where God’s money is – so you can do what He tells you to do with it. Why I Use A 4C’s Accounting Tool? God said – Give careful attention to His money. Proverbs 27:23-24 – Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds; for riches do not endure forever, and a crown is not secure for all generations. God said – Give An Account – (a detail of transactions). Luke 16:2 – So he called him and said to him, ‘What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your management…” God said – It’s a Requirement - I Corinthians 4:2 – For it is required in stewards that a man be found faithful. God said – Divide your portion. Ecclesiastes 11:2 – Divide you portion to seven, or even to eight, for you do not know what misfortune may occur on the earth. (Your portion is more than just the money you have available to invest.) God said Count the Cost - Luke 14:28 – For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? (Without a 4C’s Accounting Tool – I wouldn’t know what I have available and if there’s enough to finish at this time.) God said – Save For Later. Proverbs 21:20 – The wise man saves for the future but the foolish man spends whatever he gets. There are three futures when it comes to money – Next month is the first future. The wise man saves for the future. That’s why this month’s income – pays next month’s bills – the secret to freedom financially. Most people use this month’s income – to pay the bill due yesterday. God says the foolish spend whatever they get. God’s Way: This month’s income pays next month’s bills. What God gives you this month – at the end of this month – you distribute to next month’s categories. Then the money is already there when the bill comes due. And anything extra that God gave you this month – you just ask him what He wants you to do with it – after tithe and offering. He’ll tell you – to either save it, give it, or spend it. The second future when it comes to money is short term needs. There are things God wants you to buy in the near future – short to mid-term. You might need furniture, or a new laptop. You may need something beyond just monthly bills. (Not Christmas – that is a monthly bill. Christmas isn’t an emergency – it comes every year.) So are Car Repairs. Cars will break down, and house maintenance. But other discretionary things – like a vacation or a pool in the backyard – whatever God tells you to do – you will need to save for the future – not spend whatever you get. The third future when it comes to money is long term income. You won’t be able to work 50 hours a week when your 90 years old. The wise man saves for the future, but the foolish man spends whatever he gets. There is a caution in this one… Your treasure – a sum stored up for future use. It can become your god if you are not careful. If you are saving up to ‘take your ease’ you’re like the rich fool. All three futures – when it comes to money – can become idols. The key to obeying with money – is know where God’s money – so you can do what He tells you to do with it.
Principles: God’s Word addresses obedience, money, ownership, stewardship, working,, giving, saving, spending, debt, counsel, investing, retirement. His Word covers everything you need to know to obey with money. And His blessing always follows His Word. We will cover these more in the coming weeks, but for now… Decide beforehand to obey no matter what! Learn to Give an Account Daily – a 4C’s Accounting Tool – know where His money is and do what He tells you to do with it. He will start making your money decisions. His way is way better than yours. He’s way better at money than you are. He doesn’t want you to manage it. He wants you to obey with it. If he wanted it managed well – he would have given it all to Warren Buffet – not you. He doesn’t want your money – it’s His anyway. He wants your heart! And as you obey He will reveal more of his Word on what to do with it. Just like PiVAT and PRISM work together – so do PRISM and 4C’s. God said turn your heart to me. Proverbs 4:23 – Above all else guard your heart – for everything you do flows from it. When I was young I thought this was about human relationships and purity. But God said for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Guard you heart - this is about money relationship. Learning to obey with God’s money – guards your heart - you learn to love His Word more than you love silver or gold. Every time you obey with money – you are guarding your heart. Every time you learn what God says about money – you are guarding your heart, and every time you do your 4C’s each morning – giving and account – knowing where God’s money is so you can do what He tells you to do with it. You are guarding your heart. You are training your heart – after God’s own heart. God is saying – turn your heart to me! Luke 16:11 - Whoever is faithful in that which is least, is faithful also in much and whoever is unrighteous in that which is least is unrighteous also in much. If therefore you have not been faithful in the use of worldly wealth – who will entrust the true riches to you? If you will fully obey in the little – money – God can entrust you with true riches!
So where do I start? First: Ask yourself – Am I willing to fully obey whatever God says about money? Whether I’m doing it right now or not? Whether it makes sense or not? Whether my family and friends, and people I know – agree or not? If like David, you will decide this – then you will learn to love His Word – you will become a man or woman after His own heart. You will love God – not money. Second: Give an Account Daily – Know where God’s money is – ask Him what He wants you to do with it. And Give an Account Daily – God will tell you what to do with His money. He’s the owner, we’re just the steward.) He will reveal His Word to confirm what He says. Obedience accelerates revelation. And if you obey with money – you’ll obey with anything. This is a relationship thing! That’s why it’s a heart thing. Your conversations with God will increase – and so will your relationship with Him! You will become a man or woman after God's own heart.
