Love you all, praying for you.
Have you ever been up at night? Can’t sleep, mind racing? Exhausted, need the sleep, but can’t sleep? Other than medical – I’m not a doctor… I’ve noticed two reasons people are up at night. #1 God is trying to tell them something, or #2 The devil is trying to tell them something - to steal their sleep. That’s what He does – He comes to steal, kill and destroy anything good that God has for you. Jesus comes to give life. First, what does God have for you? Sleep. Psalm 127:2 - for he gives sleep to those He loves… another version says, for He gives his beloved – sleep. David said - Psalms 4:8 – I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O LORD make me dwell in safety. David is telling himself his choice. I will – He has already decided what he will do, and by his own mouth – he commits himself to it. I will lie down and sleep in peace (complete rest - of mind, body and soul). Why? Self-determination? No, the source. For YOU, alone, O LORD, make me to (cause me to, allow me to – by your power and authority enable me to), dwell in safety. Safety of mind, body and soul! When the prince of peace is in you, when Jesus is in the boat – you sleep when the storm rages, you rest when others stress, you are at peace when there is turmoil all around you. The one who speaks to the wind and the waves – is the one who gives you sleep. For you alone, O LORD. There is a relational element required to live in that truth. Is He LORD? Not just over all, but over you? First check the obvious – is there un-confessed sin in your life? That’ll keep you up at night. Is there something God told you to do that you haven’t done? No wonder you can’t sleep. Isaiah 57:20 – But the wicked are like the tossing sea, which cannot rest… Who are the wicked? Those who act wickedly, not in obedience. Who's the wicked? Not the other guy… me, if I act wickedly. Other translations confirm this… “But the unrighteous shall be tossed and troubled as waves, and shall not be able to rest.” ““But those who still reject me (what God tells them) are like the restless sea, which is never still but continually churns up mud and dirt.” Just simply ask God – Have I not obeyed something you said? He will tell you. He may even have you get up and do it – or cease the doing of it. But it could just be the devil trying to steal your sleep – that’s when you declare God’s Word – I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O LORD – make me dwell in safety. Thank you LORD, for giving me rest. I receive it in Jesus' Name. Then – let him give it. But sometimes you can’t sleep – because God is trying to tell you something. Joseph couldn’t sleep – God woke him in the middle of the night – to take that child to Egypt – because Herod was trying to kill him. Sometimes God just has something for you – that He speaks in the night season – when He can get your attention, when you are not talking, or planning or striving! Praise God! Write It Down! Right now! You won’t sleep until you do, or worse yet, if you don’t write it down, you won’t remember it in the morning. Value what God says enough to write it down! Keep your Conversation Log – on your night stand. At least a scratch pad to transfer later to your Conversation Log. Samuel heard God speak in the middle of the night. It was his habit to not let one Word – fall to the ground – that’s why God continued to appear to Samuel at Shiloh. Praying that you will always be in the boat with Jesus – that the Prince of Peace will give you sleep. Praying that you would ask Him – to be sure no sin gives the devil access to steal your rest. Praying that you will review the PRISM Topic – Write It Down, so you would develop the never-miss habit of writing down what He says to you – even in the night season. Praying that you will speak God’s Word with your mouth – I will lie down and sleep in peace – for you alone O LORD, make me dwell in safety. And finally – praying that you will drawn to PRISM – five things you can do every day in God’s word. Just another example of "the thing that brings the thing." Proverbs 3:21 – My son, do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight, preserve sound judgment and discretion; they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck. Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble. When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. Praying that Full Obedience, Declaring His Promise, Writing down what He speaks, and soaking in His WORD - will let the LORD of all – and the LORD of you! - give you sleep... the rest that He has for those He loves. Love you all, dad
