Love you all, praying for you!
Tough Huddle today. I really hate tests. Just being honest. The reason I hate tests is because they come up so suddenly – without warning, without really having the chance to prepare for them. Yesterday, I had to go to the Post Office – my day was scheduled full, but praise God! I made it there just in time before it closed. Some important documents needed to get in the mail, and when I got to the counter and pulled out my credit card to pay, (Quick Reminder: we don’t use credit, we just use a credit card, more on some other time), but when I took out my credit card to pay, it wasn’t in my wallet! We had traveled recently, and someone else used the credit card I use, plus I had given away the cash I had with me. So my wallet was totally empty, (that never happens!) except for a bank card, that I tried to run through but got rejected because I hadn’t activated it yet. (Probably what that sticker was still stuck on the front – meant.) Anyway, it’s too late to run back home to get my card or money before the Post Office closes… so I run back out to the car to ask my daughter (who just ran out the door to come with me) if she had a card or cash. She didn’t – she just ran out the door. And suddenly, I found myself - expressing my frustration. Yes, I can come back tomorrow, but I don’t have time to do tomorrow, what God told me to do today. I was frustrated to say the least, especially since this never happens! And what came out of my mouth, wasn’t praise, it was… complaining. My daughter called me on it. She was right. It served no purpose, it accomplished nothing… and here was the worst part. Realizing I had no means of paying, I dug through my wallet one more time, and found an older debit card – that I hadn’t used for a long time, so I ran back in and it actually went through. It worked! And here, I had complained for nothing. Actually - that's what every complaint is - for nothing. What if I had praised instead? What if I had just prayed, asked God, and trusted, instead of wasting my breath and my words on complaining. The result would have been the same, God would have showed me the working card – that was already in my wallet. His blessing and provision was already there, I just didn’t see it yet.
Later God challenged me. Your tongue was created to praise, not complain. Complaining is a cancer of the mouth. It doesn’t build, it tears down; it doesn’t make you rise up, it brings you to ruin. God reminded me – You will either complain or praise - your choice. Your mouth will either bring my presence and my deliverance, or my anger – ruin and destruction. Proverbs 18:21 - Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit. That means if you love to complain, you’ll eat its fruit. If you love to praise, you’ll eat its fruit. Is there ever an advantage to complaining? Does it ever produce a single benefit? Does it bring anything good? - the Good that God has for you? It doesn’t change anything about the situation, it doesn’t fix anything. Complaining just keeps you from obeying - from doing what God told you to do - Praise. Psalms 34:1 - I will bless the LORD at all times, His praise will continually be in my mouth. When I say the first word of complaint – I am not blessing the LORD at all times. His praise is not in my mouth - complaining is… Complain: to utter expressions of grief or lament, to murmur, to find fault. Numbers 11:1 And when the people complained, it displeased the LORD: and the LORD heard it; and his anger was kindled; God takes complaining seriously. It ticks him off! And it’s of zero benefit to you. Complaining is in fact the opposite of praise – Praise gives glory to God, it makes Him bigger! Complaining gives glory to the situation or the problem – it makes it bigger. When facing a situation - Praise! don't complain! Complaining won't help - but Praise will! God said He inhabits the praises of his people (Psalms 22:3) What is Praise? Websters 1828 Dictionary - Praise: Commendation bestowed on a person for his personal virtues or worthy actions. To express gratitude, to do honor to, to display the excellence of. God reminded me – Do not let one word of complaint ever come out of your mouth. Praise me every time - instead of complain. In fact – when I’m about to complain – that is the time to praise. What could you complain about – even right now? Will you? or will you turn your words to praise. Whatever you could complain about - He’s still worthy in virtue and action. Instead, display his excellence with praise – do honor to Him, not the problem or situation. Praying for you – that you will bless the LORD at all times – that praise would always be in your mouth. Praying that you will ask yourself – What am I about to complain about? – so you can decide in that moment to do the opposite! To praise instead! to honor God, to bring glory to Him, to make Him bigger, not the situation you face. Praying that every complaint you could have - you leave unspoken. That instead, you turn every thought and every word to praise! And if you remember, would you please pray this for me also, so every opportunity to complain becomes a choice to praise.
