1 To Hate Evil. Proverbs 8:13 – The fear of the LORD is to hate evil, pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech I despise. (Hate: Turn from immediately, like a putrid smell. Perverse: a reluctance to obey, thinking about it, instead of obeying right away… turning it over in your mind until you justify not obeying)
2 To Tremble in His Presence. Jeremiah 5:22 – Should you not fear me?” declares the LORD. “Should you not tremble in my presence? I made the sand a boundary for the sea, an everlasting barrier it cannot cross. The waves may roll, but they cannot prevail; they may roar, but they cannot cross it.
3 To Fully Obey what He tells you. Deut 10:12-13 – And now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to fully obey all his commands that I am giving you today for your own good.
4 To Speak the Truth.
5 Say Nothing Harmful.
6 Do Good.
7 Seek Peace. Psalms 34:11,13-14 – Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD. Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking lies. Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.
WHY FEAR THE LORD?
1 It's a Requirement 2 Chronicles 19:9 – Thus you shall doin the fear of the LORD, faithfully with an undivided heart.
2 It's the Beginning of Wisdom Psalms 111:10 - The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding, to him belongs eternal praise.
3 God will Bless You Psalms 115:13 – He will bless those who fear the LORD, both small and great alike.
HOW TO GET THE FEAR OF THE LORD
1 Ask for It - Psalms 86:11 – Teach me your way O LORD that I may walk in your truth, give me an undivided heart to fear your Name.
2 Devote yourself to it - Psalms 119:38 – Establish your Word to your servant, who is devoted to your fear.
3 Read His Word every day – Deuteronomy 17:19 – It is to be with him, and he is to read it all the days of his life
4 Obey what he tells you – Deuteronomy 17:19 - It is to be with him, and he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to fear the LORD his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees.
8 THINGS TO FEAR GOD RIGHT NOW
1 KNEEL Ps 135:20 – You who fear the Lord, bless the Lord. Bless (baw’-rak) to kneel, by implication to bless God.
2 PRAISE Psalms 22:23 - You who fear the Lord praise him! Honor him all you descendants of Jacob, Revere him all you descendants of Israel.
3 SAY Psalms 118:4 – Let them that fear the Lord say, “His Love Endures Forever!”
4 TELL Psalms 66:16 - Come and hear all you who fear God, Let me tell you what He has done for me.
5 TURN Proverbs 3:7 - Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and turn from evil.
6 TRUST Psalms 115:11 - You that fear the Lord, trust in the Lord - He is their help and shield.
7 OBEY 2 Chron 19:9 - … thus you shall do in the Fear of the Lord, faithfully and with an undivided heart.
8 HOPE Psalms 147:11 - The Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love.
